WHO: Christopher Paolini grew up in Paradise Valley, Montana, where he and his younger sister were homeschooled. He began writing Eragon when he was just fifteen. Paolini’s family self-published the novel in 2002, and it was soon discovered by Knopf. The company acquired the series and published Eragon in hardcover in 2003, when Paolini was eighteen years old. It quickly became a worldwide publishing phenomenon. The series continued with the publication of Eldest in 2005 and Brisingr in 2008. The Inheritance cycle has sold more than 22 million copies worldwide, and has over 50 foreign-language licenses. Paolini is writing the fourth book to conclude the Inheritance cycle. A publication date has not yet been planned. Terry Brooks published his first novel, The Sword of Shannara, in 1977. Since then, he has written 28 books including the New York Times bestselling Genesis of Shannara novels Armageddon’s Children, The Elves of Cintra, and The Gypsy Morph; the Voyage of the Jerle Shannara trilogy: Ilse Witch, Antrax, and Morgawr; the High Druid of Shannara trilogy: Jarka Ruus, Tanequil, and Straken; The Word and the Void trilogy: Running with the Demon, A Knight of the Word, and Angel Fire East; the nonfiction book Sometimes the Magic Works: Lessons from a Writing Life; and the novel based upon the screenplay and story by George Lucas, Star Wars ® : Episode I The Phantom Menace.™ The author was a practicing attorney for many years but now writes full-time.
